Real Stories From Real Patients

Gas Cards

Louis, a lung cancer patient living in Ahoskie, needed to travel to Greenville Mon-Fri for 5 weeks for radiation. He was referred to us by his social worker in need gas cards to enable him to get to his treatment. As a result, he has completed his treatments and is on the way to better health.

Wigs

Grace, an 18 year old brain cancer patient was losing her hair due to radiation. Her insurance would not cover a wig payment, so we purchased one for her.



Grace's confidence skyrocketed with the new wig, and she felt like herself again.

Utilities

Christine is a stage 4 melanoma patient. During treatment, she was unable to work and she needed assistance with her utility bills. Cancer Services partnered with other local organizations to stretch the available resources for her to help her get by during her treatment.

Social Support

Pink Friends is a social support group for breast cancer patients and survivors that meets about 5-6 times a year for activities and potluck.


It is free to attend and takes place at the Cancer Services office. Pink Friends provides emotional and social support to these local breast cancer patients and survivors.

Grocery Cards

Robert, a 29 year old cancer patient was unable to work due to his chemotherapy treatment for cancer.


Cancer Services supplied Robert with a grocery card about once a month to assist him with having food on the table.

Rent Assistance

Marjorie, a 62 year old breast cancer patient was unable to work due to her cancer treatment.


Cancer Services was able to provide Marjorie with rent assistance paid directly to her landlord.
